It’s been a busy few weeks at our house with Valentine’s Day celebrations and Ski Week just around the corner. I’ve received a ton of questions about candy making with kids, so I thought I would post more details here.
This year, we were inspired to make our own chocolates for family and classmates. We bought candy molds from Michael’s, along with a selection of meltable candy in pinks and reds and higher quality meltable chocolate for our more discerning recipients (ahem, Grandpa). We also purchased a sampler of really cute sprinkles from their Sweet Tooth Fairy line. It was hard not to buy sprinkles for all the holidays and celebrations–this line is my new go-to for decorating anything baked!
The process of melting the candy and chocolate was really simple–just place the chips in a silicone bowl (you could use your own, but I was happy to buy theirs) and microwave in increments until the chips melt and stir smooth. Be careful–it’s hot! If you’re doing this with little ones, be sure to ask them to watch as you pour the chocolate into the molds. It cools quickly. I found we had to wait just a minute or two until my girls could begin decorating.
Clean up was a sweet surprise at the end. A wet warm rag wiped the hardened candy/chocolate off my quartz countertops with ease.
Post below if you have questions! We are by no means candy making experts, but we are happy to share more about our process. I hope this inspires you to give this fun activity a try. I know my girls are already asking when we can start making Easter candy 😉
